Hi,

As described in the title, the live rock and the caroline algae are turning white. They are not fading to white, but turning to bright white. The problem is that it happened over two days!!

Here are some pictures before and after.

pH level is 8
Ammonia is 0.25
Nitrite is 0
Nitrate is 0
Tank age is 4months
Am using T5 54 watt with two metalhailide
Light was on from 6.25pm to 11.15pm but I added another period for the blue light which is from 10am to 1pm

What could lead to this change in color?

It is always nice to believe that am a fish too .. For at least an hour each time

Not necessarily. Ammonia can kill it too. If you had that light over the tank the entire time, it's not the lighting.

You are right about the ammonia level. But in my case, the ammonia level is low.

Am still convinced with the article. What happened is that I had to lower the hight of the stand that carries the tank. So I took out almost all the water out and now I can tell the water level by the difference in color of the caroline algae.

.25 ammonia in a tank with fish is a problem, a large wc should be in your near future.

Yes, even low ammonia can have detrimental effects. Imagine drinking "just a little bit" of pure ammonia....I wonder how that would work out... ;)
