This is a new tank that I am cycling, Got this LR from my LFS last week. Just last night I noticed some pincers poking out of one of my rocks and found a little crab living in the growth (i don't know what it's called) I then noticed one rock had a big crack down the middle. once I hit it with my flash light the rock closed.... not a rock

I called the LFS and they were less than helpful.

Will it survive the cycle?
What can I feed it?
Do I need larger lights to care for it?

Wow thats amazing a clam from the ocean... I would say it would survive the cycle but if it dies a clam that size will crash a new tank.

Not a clam. I agree it is much more likely a barnacle or something like stated above. If it isn't opening, which from all the buildup on the shell I would assume that it isn't, then there isn't anything living in there and it isn't anything to worry about. In all sense of the word, it is a fancy rock.
