Red sponge like thing?

On a piece of my live rock there is a red... Thing that looks like a sponge but it's hard and crumbles if you scratch it. It was just the one piece but now there's tiny little dots of it all under the same rock. Anyone have any ideas? It looks fleshy, but it isn't.

Sounds like a sponge to me. Mine come and go often. Get a little size to them and suddenly they're gone. Little ones pop up too.
