this little guy appeared on my tank wall today

can anyone tell me what this is? must have been a stowaway egg on a rock or something

Asternia star. I have many in my tank. I think they are good for the tank but there are some that would disagree. I`ve never had a problem in 13 yrs now.

Is yours a reef tank? i just read that they bad for coral or something. how big do they get?

They wont get much bigger than that. I have never had a problem with mine. Never lost a coral to them. Just my experience.

They die off and come back has food is available.

Most are prefectly safe and eat algae. Occasionally though someone will get a more destructive species that will go after coral, but this is rare.
