Does anyone know what the the polyps that extend from my toadstools do? what is their function, do they trap tiny particles for food or what? ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1389640593.275971.jpg

Yep they are there for prey capture however, this coral gets most of it's energy from it's symbiotic photosynthetic zooxanthellae inside of it. Aka from the light.
