I was changing my filter and noticed this growth. Not sure if its some kind of invert or an algae. Any ideas?

Maybe its a sponge, its odd cause I haven't put anything new like live rock or fish for a month or two. I've had the tank for about 7 months. Thanks for the link.

I have thousands of those little pineapple looking spongey things throughout my filtration system. There in the overlfow like crazy and all on the walls of my sump compartments. I was told they are ok. :)

Carey, you mean Q tip's or pineapple sponges which you are right they are good filter feeders but I think that may be a tunicate as stated earlier.
