what could it be?

this morning i woke up and was about to turn on my aquarium light. next to one of the new live rocks i had bought was what looked like a worm, but it was about 8 inches long. it was long thin red and smooth, it must have seen me approaching because as soon as i went to turn the light on it began to move forward and burrowed into my sand. any ideas?

Fishfreek posted this in the identification forum as a sticky. It has helped me ID several hitchers. Check eunacid worms and bristleworms. Without a pic it is hard to ID positively.
