What is it?

Anybody any ideas what kind of creature I've recently found in my tank?

All I can describe it as is a vacuum pipe type of thing, it has brown and white stripes and extends itself out from its attached position and appears to hoover up.

It has a group of small tenticles at the "hoover" end and is only a couple of mm in diameter.

Any ideas? Is it potentially harmful???

Sounds like a peanut worm. If it is, it's harmless and beneficial to your tank.
