Well ever since my bio pellets have really started to take off, I've had this strange brown/tan algae growing on some of my rock. One weird thing about it is that it only grows on the base rock, and dry rock I added to my tank. None of it is growing on the live rock.

It's a 125 gallon, with 40 gallon sump. Been up and running for about 18 months now. There is a yellow tang, foxface, 6 line wrasse, black and white clownfish, 2 cleaner shrimp, a dozen or so assorted hermits, and a dozen of so assorted snails.

I think it might be dinoflagellates (sp?) but I hope not! I have no trouble with any other algae other than the once, maybe twice a week cleaning on the front glass. Any advice on what this could be, and any possible ways of getting rid of it would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

No one?
Could it possibly be Calothrix Algae? Or maybe a type of brown cyano??

It comes off real easy when I syphon it, but in a cpl days its back to what it was before!

Could a handful of Nerite snails possibly help??
