worm in my tank!! (pics)

I just found this worm in my tank. It is about 8" long and as thick as say 3 hairs put together (weird example...I know). I tried to take it out but it kept 'shrinking' on me... 8O

It was between very small pieces of rock and sand. I'm freaked out, is it a pest? 8O
 
Wow. Have no idea what that is but it looks creepy!

Hopefully someone can help you out with ID on it.... its definitely not a peanut worm, those things are short and fat.

Has it harmed anything to your knowledge?
 
Looks like a peanut worm to me and a nice addition to your tank. They are a rock boring worm that cleans up detrius.
