I've heard other GBR keepers complain of that same thing: sudden death with no symptoms.

I did some research and came to the same conclusion. It seems as though there's a high mortality rate in the first week but if they make it that long, they will often be long lived. The 3rd one (replacement) has done well so far, as has the other original. I suppose only time will tell, but they are both eating well and are very active, thougfh they can be shy at times.
 
Here's a few shots of my tank, the plants are doing well. I also came across a clown pleco today that I thougfht would be a nice addition. We'll see how he does with my bristlenose and plants, if he plays nice, he can stay!
