So i figured I would post a few pics of my 29 gallon tank I'm fairly proud of it, even though it's nothing compared to you veterans!

It worked Anyways here are some updated pics of my 29 gallon, It's got some glowlight tetras, zebra danios, ghost shrimp, kuhli loaches, and snails. The drift wood is cedar and has been in for about 2 weeks now no bad effects that I can see.

thanks, took about 3 months for it to sink, it's still a lil buoyant but a rock is holding it down. Was worried with it being cedar, I've heard ceder is bad for your tanks but so far so good.

Hhhmmm never read anything about using cedar. I think most woods are okay in their raw state. Interesting question to pose though. I always wonder about the rocks I put in from the backyard. My mom has a piece of petrified wood which would be cool but I'm not sure what long time exposure to water would do.

Cedar and pine sap can be toxic, or at least it can be to reptiles

Yeah the saps can be toxic or have antibacterial properties, I believe cedar has antifungal/bacterial properties that why they say not to use it. After reading what Tom Barr has said about old driftwood cedar I decided to give it a shot, turns out my water parameters are fine and no fish die offs so the saps are probably gone.

You can drip some vinegar or acid solution on the petrified wood and as long as it doesn't fizz it should be fine to use in your tank. If it fizzes it will more than likely mess with your PH and should be avoided.

Yeah that's what I read once. I think I'm done with rocks for now anyway. I want some more wood and I'm ready to go natural plants. I also want some kind of hollow log for my clown loaches. Its hard to find anything natural so I may have to buy a fake piece.
