2 new gulf pipefish (Syngnathus scovelli), I think some people also call these dwarf pipefish because they only get 3-4" or so.

And this is a nice alligator pipefish (Syngnathoides biaculeatus) which can get up to 8-9", this guy is a good 6-7".

Nice! You always come up with the coolest stuff lol. How did you catch them if you don't mind?

These are sw and being kept in 1.020 sg. I use dipnets most of the time, I do have other equipment but the dipnet seems to be the easiest to work with.

How far off the shore did you have to go? Man I wish I lived closer to the beach lol

About 10 feet. These guys are all over the grass beds in knee deep water. That large alligator pipefish I happened to get while I was about 100ft out but the water was about waist deep at the most.

The usual suspects in the net are pipefish, grass/ghost shrimp by the hundreds, tons of snails (I'm not good enough to differentiate the snails yet), and sometimes filefish, pinfish, or seahorses. I've also seen pictures of people catching anglerfish (sargassum) various puffers, and a scrawled cowfish to name a few

Wow! What an awesome catch. Makes me want a pipefish even more sometime in the future. :) Do you have a permit or something to catch those kinds of fish or is it just like catching any other type of fish? I live near the beach in CA and there's a bunch of tide pools and life around, but I'm almost positive it's protected and illegal to take specimens if not permitted. That would be awesome to have a free resource for fish and such very close by though!

What's the care like for these guys? I've always had an interest in them.

They are eating live food, amphipods/copepods and I hatch BBS regularly for the dwarf seahorses anyway so I just give them the leftovers. Only thing with this large one is I am not sure if he's going after the bbs so I've been growing some out in a tank to see if he'll go after them once they get a little bigger.
