Here are Kymmes spotted puffers. Unfortunately, the figure 8 didn't make it...still don't know what happened to him. She hasn't named them yet...I call them "The twins".

Cute lil fellers!

Been wondering, under what circimstnaces to puffers actually Puff up?

is it a stress thing?

Have any of you ever seen it happen?

They will puff if scared or handled roughly. I don't know if they'll do it because of stress such as water conditions or something. It's a defense against predators as I understand it.
These two started out in FW and are in about 1.005 SG right now. I'm slowly raising their salinity with each water change.

According to what I have read, these fish will do best in full salt. They can live in about any water, but are much more prone to disease in FW. They also don't live as long in FW. I'm going to try to ease the SG up to about 1.019-1.020 and see how they do. I've read, as long as you keep them well fed, you can keep hermit crabs with them and they won't bother them. They sure do like snails though!
