I noticed a lot of crazy activity over my piece of driftwood. Well, the Danio's were spawning.

One of the fat females was dropping eggs. She is the one who looks really beat up. Poor girl is now covered in scratches from rolling in the wood. The male hung out in the cave, trying to keep everyone out. Couldn't chase the Gourami out tho. As you watch, you will see one small Zebra danio (male) constantly fighting with a male Leopard danio, who got in on the action.

When Zebra danios get to be adults, about 1.5", you can tell them apart. Males are smaller and have a gold tint to their bodies, females are big and fat and silver. I have 1 male and 4 females. I know for sure one of my long fin Leopard Danio's is a male because it always fights with the Zebra male when they spawn.

I got the best video I could get of it. It was hard to get them rolling around because as you can see they are in a cave in the driftwood and my digital camera does not have video lights. Plus, clear video is hard to get in the daytime with the lights against the tank, even with all the blinds shut.

How did I know where they dropped the eggs? Just watched where the other fish were munching down!
Enjoy

Just wondering, does anyone even look at these video's I make? If not, I wont bother to try making them anymore. I have posted about 6 of them and have never gotten any input at all. :(

I look at them all Dizz and find them very entertaining! I have found you one of the most informative people here and one of the people here that have helped me the most.

i have not seen the others.(could u link them to me?) but this one was cool. nice driftwood btw
sorry for the lack of input, i know how it feels. dont worry, people care!

Thanks for the feed back! It is a bit depressing when I offer so much advice and time only to have my posts ignored

I have a few remixes I put together. I wish I could do that on You-tube because I can't get a Photo-bucket video to embed in any forums. I have a video program I need to sit and mess with one day soon.

Here are a couple I have done.

This is my Bolivian Ram making a family video. Its kind of long. It starts with the pair flirting, then the spawn, wigglers, and follows the fry as they grow.

This one is the fry as they grow. It too is a tad long. I am going to be making a shorter version soon. This is my favorite, its so cute!

In this one they are almost 2 months old. Its short but sweet!

These are much shorter.

This one is my male Greshakei digging out a spot to spawn in. Look at him dumping sand all over!

This is my Egg Tumbler video. I stripped the eggs from my Red Zebra Mbuna after she had held for 6 days and raised them in a tumbler. It shows from newly hatched to free swimming. We never get to see that because the mom holds them the entire time.

And this one is just a cool slide show of my tanks and inhabitants. I made it for a web site I am working on.

Hi Dizz! I enjoy your videos. I watch them, just don't leave comments. I'll be sure to drop a line every now and again. You have some really nice tanks and the videos are great quality! Please don't stop posting them! :)

wow your males danios really turn yellow when they're mating! Mine get a little yellowish, but never like that. Interesting vid, and driftwood centerpiece too.

I like the second video alot. You must feel like the paparazzi filming these. I especially like the one month olds. They look like they have little black mohawks :)

I think your videos are very nice. The Eggtumbler video was very impressive to watch. Keep up the good work!

Dizz, I looked at the video with the Blue metriaclima greshakei and i think it quite a sensation. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I think the one you are thinking about is actually the Leopard Danio that got in on the action. I just may set up my empty 10 gallon for them to spawn in and see what happens. Wonder what a Zebra-Leopard danio would look like? A couple days after that video was made my other female spawned. She picked the hornworn at the top of the tank to spawn in. She didn't get all scratched up like the other one did.

They look like they have little black mohawks :)

LOL, out of all the fry I raise, the Rams are my favorite! Your right, they do look like they have mohawks hahahaha

Dizz, I looked at the video with the Blue metriaclima greshakei and i think it quite a sensation.

That video was taken about 1/2 hour after I added females for him. Once he discovered them he went nuts!! Bad new is, as you can see how he swims UP to spit the sand, he has killed a couple filter propellers. :(

I hadnt seen the greshakei video before. It is amazing the amount of sand he gets in his mouth and moves! Great vids. You have some real talent. You have been a great help to me and I have hopefully passed some of the knowledge you have given me on to others.

Gr8 Videos , does zebra eggs hatch or become nice meal for rest

Zebra eggs all get ate. So do Tetra eggs. Those will spawn in a leafy plant like the Java Moss then the other fish spend a couple hours picking off the eggs. As you can see in the Zebra spawn video, the Gourami was munching down as they spawned!

Enjoyed the videos, I have my own zebras and it is quite amusing to watch their mating dances, I want to learn how to successfully breed them, and have the babies survive...one day soon

Just found this post through google. I would have checked out the video, but the thread at least taught me why my a few of my zebras are so yellow and some so fat. Anyway, thanks again!
