Well now that I got my tank cleaned up its time to start building a stand!

Whoooooppie!!

Special thanks to Dad for his carpentry skills! And shop full of everything we need!

So far the supplies list is 12 12ft 2x4's, liquid nails, screws, brackets.. Who knows what else just yet!

So far we got the 2x4's cut to the lengths we need and got them glued and screwed, and got the bottom of the base built.

The dimensions of the stand are going to be 72 5/8 by 36 5/8 by 35T
That will give me a tiny bit of wiggle room when I get the tank put on the stand.

PS don't forget to make it square! This was a challenge!

Now its time for bed, but I had to upload these pics first :0)

Makin a bit more progress, got the sides and top and front trim put on tonight.

Also used foam sheathing for a bit of cushion...

Doors to come soon!

I love that idea I wonder if that will negate any slant in your floor, probably not. When I built mine I ended up having to shim one end because the floor in the house isn't completely level.

Looks good.

Foam is half inch, the guy I bought it from used foam, it looked a little crappy, so I bought a new piece.

How is it gonna crack from sitting on foam?
That should give even support across the bottom.

I suppose I should have said, if the tank has a rim... if not, I don't think its an issue. If it does have a rim (the black, oak, whatever trim), then it's designed to sit on something solid. If you sit it on foam, the foam can push up against the glass and crack it. One of our mods has an old build thread where he sat his tank on foam and it cracked.

Ok, I emailed Glass Cages to see what they suggest being it's one of their tanks.

Just curiosity in the mean time... The trim is almost so thin it's not really there it's maybe 16th of a inch thick.

Glass Cages says that the foam is required or will void the tanks warranty.

I also heard that if you don't use one of their stands, you void that warranty of the tank. But that is only what I heard. Might want to check that out.

Yeah they said it just has to be commercially built.
My Dad is a contractor so that qualifies as commercial :)

Anyways I bought the tank used so it has no warranty.

Its funny that they say use foam while other manufacturers say it voids warranty if you do use it. I guess it all depends on how they were manufactered. But I like the stand. It looks like it could hold a pickup truck.
