Acrylic thickness

Hey guys!

I bought 4 120" x 28" sheets of 1/2" laser cut acrylic the other day at an unbelievable price. I'm anxious to get building a new couple kickass tanks. For the first one I'm leaning to these dimensions...L52" x H28" x D20" which works out to around 125gal. Now lots of folks online are saying that any tank over 24" tall should be 3/4" plexi. not 1/2". Is it really too risky to go that tall with 1/2" even well braced? I was thinking of 3 3" strips of the 1/2" as cross braces on top of the two side walls and one in the middle. Any insights on this would help a lot thanks in advance.
