Does it make it look prettier to have some sort of background color?

I see some tanks use blue or black plastic tape at the back n seem to look good

What do u think?

I think black looks better for a freshwater tank, blue for saltwater

It's all personal preference. I prefer black on my saltwater, as I feel the blue gives it a "pet store look"...

I personally like black backgrounds also. My LFS has blue backgrounds and it looks fine for the store but I don't want mine to look like a store.
