hey guys for the past couple months Ive been upgrading my 90g reef into a basement sump while adding a 20g long and a 50g breeder.

the pump (mag24) pumps the water into the return a about a quarter of its output is diverted through a uv sterilizer (turbotwist 6x) and into a protein skimmer (berlin 25-225 gallon)

the skimmer flows into the 20g long with just sand and no light. this flows into the 30g rubbermaid sump.

the rest of the water is pumped up to ten feet of head into a 90 g with 2 squids into four outlets 120 lbs live rock and a 4inch sand bed 2 250w mh with 20000k bulbs it has two blue damsels a clarkii clown a yellow tang and a yellow watchman goby with a pistol shrimp.there are 5 sps some frogspawn ,xenia and some button polyps

via a plastic corner overflow with a prefilter the flow from the 90g goes downstairs into the 50g breeder with 15 lbs live rock and a condy anenome and this has one 250w mh and flows into the sump

i have a 40g rubbermaid barrel that autofills with ro/di and there is a pump that can circulate or pump the fresh sw into the any of the tanks or sump

its a work in progress comments?

I am amazed at all the work you put in. Good job! My only concern would be the portion of water given to uv and the skimmer. But you have so much water and other filtration it will probably be fine. Great work.

I've had this same idea in the back of my head ever since I started setting up my 65g a few months ago. I'd somehow have to convince my wife to allow me to drill a few large holes through our floor boards though.......

i don't know if that skimmer is large enough. i was always told to purchase a skimmer rated for 2 x your total water volume.
it's hard to say how that skimmer will work, but the pump they are using on it is very efficient.
it sounds to me like it's about the size of the reef octopus NWB 150, except for the more efficient pump, which they (coralvue) only uses on their "octo extreme" line. that skimmer (the NWB 150) is rated for 150 gallons, so i'd figure it for a 75-100 gallon total volume system.
add the sicce pump, and i think you'll do ok with it.
that said, this skimmer with the pump included is 234.99, and you still have to assemble it. the octo is 194.95. not much of a bargain for the assembly work involved.
