Here is the progress of my tank stand for my 50g

the tank sis 30x18x21. the stand is 31x19x30ish ( might be close the 31) but the height is the same on all corners ;)

Main frame assembled:

I used 2x2 to secure the 2x4 uprights and top & bottom frames together. I also used Liquid nails on all the joints

Here are my helpers:

Top and bottom shelves:

Finally the sides and face panels cut to size:

I Liquid Nailed the side on, they should be solid tonight. I still need to cut a hole in the face for the doors then mount it

Not overly creative :) but very good job. Throw some trim on that bad boy, give it a special touch ;)

Good job though, and congrats on taking the DIY route :)

How much did it cost you in the end?

I wanted something basic.. wife wanted me to add the sides to it..

I have about $60 in it. the 1/2" oak plywood was the biggest cost.

I will trim it and do something for the doors.

I just need to get the tank on this stand and start getting it up and running

Plus I have to build another stand for a 55g. probably the same basic design..

Hey sorry to intrude on this great thread but I have an off subject question. Your tank is 30x18x21 and its a 50g, how is that. My tank is 36x12x23 and I was told it was about 38gallons. Not trying to be rude but can u help me figure this one out

Your 30x18x21 basically equals my 36x12x23

You are not being rude at all, when I got the tank I was told it was 60 gallons, but did not look big enough. Here is how I calculated it:

1 Cubic inch= 0.00432900433 US gallons

here is the math for my 50g
30x18x21 = 11340 Cubic inches of water
11340 x 0.00432900433 = 49.0909091022 US gallons

Yours:
36x12x23 = 9936
9936 X 0.00432900433 = 43.01298702288 US Gallons

So yours is 43 Gallons, if yours is only 21 Tall this is it 39.27272728176 Gallons

My 55 Gallon Tank is 48x13x21 So:
48x13x21 =13104
13104 x 0.00432900433 = 56.72727274032 gallons

Hope that helps

Looking good... I wonder if you or I will finish first :) I have a lot to do still and a hurricane coming right for us so my money is on you!

Right on :) I figure I have about $200-250 wrapped up on my 90 gal one I'm going to be building. Oak is very nice ;)

Maybe, I will have a short time tonight and will cut out the hoel for the doors and mount the face.

I still need to buy trim and stain it, but I have no time this weekend to work on it so it is a tough call..

I like the stand and tank dimensions. What's the stock going to be for that tank?

Well, I wanted a nice FW community tank, BUT my kids both won a gold fish this past year and it is in their 10gal tanks. so I need to move the Goldfish to the 50g, I will add a few others, but my guess is i need to wait until my kids are willing to give up the free goldfish so I can add other fish.

Granted I know I can add some to the tank even with 2 goldfish, but not really sure what else I want in it yet.
