I have completed building my own filter out of a bottle and soda straw segments and sponge. I think it will work almost as well as K1. I am excited to give a test run here in a little bit to see if it will work. I am thinking of making a how to, let me know if you are interested. Thanks everybody.

I made a couple of the filters using a Smart Water bottle that I cut to about 5 inches in length. I am not too sure if the water is flowing through the filter like i would like it to. I am thinking about making a couple of changes to increase the flow.

Adding a powerhead would actually hinder it's operation. With the air the K1 moves about gently. Too much flow and it would be jammed near the exit.

I just made one. It seems to be working. At least it looks like it is.
