Here is a LED light I built (based on Joey from The king of DIY). I used half round PVC gutter, 2x 3/4" PVC end caps, a 3/4" PVC pipe and 2 end caps for the gutter). I already had the LED strip (which it was a little longer though) and the screw and bolts. The interior is covered with reflective tape for more lighting.

NOTE: This is not good for growing plants or anything else. It is simply for viewing/enjoying your fish.

Here are the pictures:

I haven't used it yet. The tank I purchased on Craigslist is in my garage for a leak test (even though it's an acrylic tank) and I am waiting on my black PVC to arrive for the spray bar build-out.

I have a canopy that will cover the fixture so I am not worried about the look of it but you could paint the outside of it.

I'll set it up on the tank and send a picture. My only worry is that the LED strip I already had was not as long as I would have hoped but I can always buy another one and have both strips in the same space if needs to be.

looks great! saw the same video too. was contemplating building a mini version but went a separate route while shopping for parts.

since i've a mini tank, purchased 2 rigid aluminium led lights instead, cost wise worked out similar.

love to see a video of the color changing modes when you get a chance.

nice, I like how clean the gutter looks as a light fixture.
overall very nice set-up. (y)

now if we can only find LED ribbons that are the right colors/temp specifically for reef tanks....LOL

Thank you Marine and PB_Smith.

I had most of the parts already from a previous project (including the LEDs) so for me it was a no-brainer. I was at first going to run the led strip from front to back and then so the updated version of Joey so I had to give it a try.

I am hoping to get the rocks and tank ready for my fishless cycle this weekend. I will take pictures/videos of the setup at that time and some more once I get the cichlids in :)

Finally got to move on with the build and here are some pictures (sorry my phone does not take great ones):
