Eheim green > black

I just ordered an eheim 2217 canister filter for my new 55gal. I am not a fan of the green plastic inlet and spraybar tubes. My thought was to boil the green pieces in black Rit dye to change the color from light green to super dark green/black. Rit is supposedly non-toxic and I have read other articles on this forum and elsewhere in which people use Rit dye for fish tank ornaments so I don't see why this would be any different.

Anyone see any potential problems from doing this?

I will post some pics of my dyed pieces after the filter arrives if anyone interested.
