Hey,

I have a Fluval U2 and need some new sponges. After looking up online, I did see that the smaller finer "filter" is actually carbon, so I am going to have to rip those out when I get home.

The problem I have is, with just the sponge and nothing like the finer carbon mesh part, I think to much debri will get in.

Would it be feasible to just use those dish washing sponges with the scourer on? Obviously, I'd have to cut them to length, but I think they'd work great and so much cheaper.

Edit: Or use quilt batting and add just the scourer part on the inside as I am thinking the sponge may be two dence?

Any ideas?

Kyte~

The quilt batting does an excellent job of water polishing. I don't use cannisters, so maybe someone else can comment on using it in your filter. Sponges are available in different coarsenesses. Maybe you could use two different sponges.

By the way, welcome to AA!
