HOB refugiums?

I wanted to know if anybody has experience with HOB fuges, wanted one for my 37g reef and looked online a little and people are saying the best filter to use is an aquaclear. Could you use just any HOB?

i heard the ac50 is the best to use and as long as its a clear hob so light can shine through to grow the algae

Couldent i just use a LED lamp?

And do you have to use the aquaclear filter? Or could i use some top fin filter from petsmart?

If its a high enough wattage to grow algae then yes.

Like a said before, a fuge is usually clear so I would stick to that.

Yeah true, its better to be able to see how your setting it up.

I built my own almost a year ago and it works great. I used acrylic from Home Depot and some acrylic cement from a hobby store.
