I finally had time to put this together today. I think it looks great and keeps the heat from the lights off my glass top

1/2 iron pipe. 2-90 deg fittings. 2 - 1/2 iron pipe flanges. Cut pipe to lengths and hight wanted thread ends and screw all together clean off protector oil coat and paint. That the frame. Now hanging lights I simply put I-bolts on my light and used chain and S hooks to hang them and attached the chain to the pipe with 1/2 stand off straps and Bigger S hooks.

The adjustable height for the light fixture is a plus.
For those with a stand that is about the same width as the tank, adding another pair of 90 degree fittings should make it work.
 
Yes it should my stand is cinderblock and plywood [emoji51] so I just screwed it to the plywood
