I am in the process of building a new canopy out of oak. Can anyone tell me which stain will match the pine AGA oak colored stand.

Thanks
Glenn

If you take a sample down to the paint store, the clerk can likely help you. Chip off a bit of the finish in a back corner where it won't show to bring in.

I used Golden Oak to stain the pine stand and hood I built. It's slightly lighter in color than the oak plastic trim on the AGA. If you can go a shade darker than golden oak you should be pretty close but I used pine and I'm not sure if it takes stain the same as oak.

These color swatches appear to be on red oak - other woods will vary somewhat.

I use Minwax Wood Finish - Golden Pecan 245 on my red oak projects. Two coats almost exactly matches the oak trim on AGA tanks.
I found the Golden Oak 210B stains the grain of oak a bit too dark.

I don't recommend Minwax' one step stain/finish products - I wasn't too happy with the consistency of the finish. Two coats of stain and three coats of fast drying polyurethane http://www.minwax.com/products/protective/fast-poly.cfm takes two days to apply, but provides a rich, water-resistant finish that will last for years.

I agree. I tried it on my stand, and wasn't happy at all. A regular stain you can polish out with a rag until it's consistant, but the poly in the mix thickens it up too much. I'm not buying the product again, although I'll probably use the rest of the can I have to finish off the matching hood.
