stand modification?

I will have all of my parts to set up my sump on Friday with only one problem. The 29 does not fit under my stand due to a center brace in the back of the stand. I am planning on cutting it out. Has anyone done this with the full tank sitting on the stand? I will add some 2X4's to the stand for the support. Or does this just sound like a disaster waiting to happen?

Does the center brace run vertical or horizontal?

Are the corners 2 x 4's? If so you are probably ok removing the center brace as long as a piece of dimensional lumber runs across the top and bottom.

Not 2x4's, will I need to build a box in th stand to support it. There is not much for a frame, sides and about 6" on front and back.

Building a box inside the stand is a good idea. I did something similar to reinforce an old sofa table to hold my 46g bowfront.
