Basic jist of the sump i'm making. This is for my 55g FW. What are some typical things for ppl to put in a fuge area for a FW tank? I was thinking some fast growing oxygenating plants... maybe some mosses.

Also, has anyone tryed using a DSB on a fw tank? I dont really know what goes on in one of those, but i'm curious none-the-less. This area will also be used for occasioanly spawning some zebra danios.

Any input is appreciated,
David

Heater and airstone would go nicely in the fuge.

Anacharis would go well in the fuge. The mosses I have seen are not fast growing.

Nitrate removal when plants are used.. when you say fuge Im thinking refugium.. it would also remove phospates and other plant nutrients.. I wouldnt go with more than 2wpg though, it would become a problem you would need to fertilize the fuge! LOL..

We have been discussing this and other plant based filters in the Freshwater General Discussion area..
