Hello,

I built an unorthodox stand for my 225 gal reef tank. The top is made using LVL engineered lumber which is held together by truss hangers and 12 power lags. The support structure is made using 8 doubled 2x6 legs held together by 64 lag bolts. The base is 2x6 green treat lumber.

Do I really need plywood on top of this thing? I would normally not be hesitant but the tank is drilled so the plumbing would be a pain.

Nice stand! You don't need the plywood. My stand doesn't have plywood. It's open just like yours.

An old saying in the fire service. "Never trust a truss"

Doesn't apply here but just reminded me of it.

EDIT:

That must way a 100 pounds plus no? lol. Looks real solid.

I'd say more like 300 lbs :). It's going behind a bar I'm building in the basement. I'm going to build a bar back skinned around the stand after I get the tank up there.
