want to make my own canister filter

Hi guys... I just buy a 78 gallon tank for my south american cichlids. Hav my power filter in it. Bt recently just get a idea to make a canister filter for own. It wil be less expensive if I make it instead buy. I manage a container of aquaguard which hav 2 pipes attached 2holes one in another out. Just want some help regarding choose d media and d submersible pump wat I gonna attach with it.wat r d things I hav to check before I buy dat pump? Can anyone help me for d project? Suggestions r most welcome
