aquasafe canada ro+di unit

my Aquasafe 6 stage RO+DI unit arrived today, I ordered the 100 gpd model with the drinking water pressure tank and spigot

Packaging = A - Excellent

Delivery = B - Not bad for this time of year on an international order

Appearance = A - Unit looks very slick and nice color coded tubing

Assembly = B - Almost everything was hooked up already, the prefilter sumps needed tightening, and no diagram as to which way the RO membrane is supposed to go

Configuration = C - Not sure why RO+DI water would need an additonal carbon filter, after all the other processing it's gone through

Prefilter Effectiveness = F - The RO and DI membranes are working like magic, but the 3 stage prefilter isn't doing much of anything. TDS of water going in is about 550-570 ... TDS of water after 3rd stage is 545-560 ... my $25 Pur Ultimate pitcher takes TDS down to around 430, with a single small cartrdige.

Overall = C - I know my TDS is above average, but I was expecting better performance from the prefilter system, as much as the fancy cocoanut carbon was hyped up.

I also got a 100 gpd R/O 5 stage drinking unit from them. As you said, packaging & delivery time from Canada wasn't bad but the instructions were horrible. The directions tell you to install R/O membrane & that it could only go in one way. After finally using an oil filter wrench to get the stupid housing cap off, the membrane can go in either way, but eventually you figure it out due to the gasket. Their instructions recommend pipe joint compound with teflon because they said teflon tape is not made for plastic to plastic applications. So I use the joint compound & every fitting leaks after the install. I take it apart several times just to find that they had used teflon tape even though the recommendation against it. I just added more teflon and it was fine.
All in all, the unit is good for it's purpose. $100 for a 5 stage R/O drinking unit with a pressurized tank is cheap. What's really good is their replacement cartridges. $50 for 20 cartridges (4x replacement) & free shipping if purchased with the R/O unit is very cheap.
After the first 10 gallons or so (3 flushes of the 3.2g storage tank), the TDS was @ 11 ppm. My Aqua FX 4 stage 100 gpd R/O D/I unit produced 0 ppm of TDS from startup.
