Bluegrass Aquatics Review

I wasn't sure where to put this..

Anyway, I made my first purchase from these gentleman this week and it will definitely be my last. Don't know how they've garnered so many good reviews. I spent $160.00 on mbuna and 4 synodontis cats. I ordered their "cherry red" Red Zebras. Well, they were just the common drab orange you can literally get at Walmart for $4.00, not the $10.00 they scammed me for. The cats were $14.00 and they are so small (about .25 inch) I frankly don't know how they're doing in the 55 gallon I put them. Every now and then, I see one poking around.

I couldn't believe the mediocre quality for the money I spent. I think a lot of their good reviews are posted by their employees.

I just wanted to pass this along because a lot people have helped on this forum. If this wasn't your experience with them I'd love to hear about it.

That's good to know, I've been skeptical of them as well.

Did you contact them?

If you paid with PayPal you could open a dispute....

I did contact them. One fish (a Maingano) had died and they wanted pics of that. I paid with a CC but they don't refund your money anyway, they just give a credit on your next order. I contacted them about the quality and they wouldn't respond to that email. In fairness, a few of the Maingano do look pretty good after they've been in there over a week. But for $10.00 a piece (for juveniles) they should be exceptional. The Red Zebra were below standard, and a few might even be hybrids. I went to a LFS about 7 miles away a picked up 2 bright red-orange for $3.50 a piece -and two little beautiful socolofi for the same price. All I can say is caveat emptor with these guys. Somebody else on here might have something positive and I welcome their feedback. I felt scammed.

Keep in mind that Bluegrass Aquatics is basically just the internet-retail shell of Seagrest Farms, so I would expect nothing good ordering from bluegrass....

Well aren't all internet sellers like that? Of course with the exception of most Aquabid sellers.

Such as liveaquaria, bobs tropical plants, wetspot....

There care and quarantine procedures may be different, but the fish probably all come from one fish farm or the other.....

JMO, I may be wrong about this....

I dunno, I mostly buy from individual breeders when I buy online. But Seagrest is basically next door to Bluegrass's Florida warehouse... Make of that what you will.
