disappointing online order (with pic)

Well, I ordered a "plate coral, purple, short tentacle, medium" from LiveAquaria and it looks nothing like their picture! Is this even what this is?

Well, it looks like a long tentacle to me, so that part they got wrong. The coloration I think might be right, given the proper lighting it should become more colorful and the purple will come out more.

it looks healthy... Give it some time to get some color.

The other thing I would suggest is to place that on the substrate instead of the LR. The LR can irritate it and it won't expand as well.

Looks like my long tentacle plate coral. They'll get color but it won't be purple. Could be greenish or tan/brown if your lights are strong. Strong light will cause higher zoozanthalae (spelling?) production which makes them a bit more brown.

IMO if something is sold as "plate coral, purple..." it should be PURPLE! No coloring up, it should come purple. I would be leary of buying anything that is not WYSIWYG online. Good luck w/ it, I hope it turns out good. FWIW, some other people where saying they weren't very happy w/ their liveaquaria.com orders...

It's listed as a Plate Coral, Short Tentacle. Nothing in the name says purple. And if you read the quick stats, it says it can come in green, brown or purple. Then the description says "It comes in a variety of colors, some very bright". I don't think your guaranteed to get a bright colored one. Sounds to me like it's luck of the draw. For what its worth, it looks like a nice specimen.

"Item # Description Price Qty Add
CN-83574 SW - Plate Coral, Purple Short Tentacle - Small" -from liveaquaria.com

The exact description at the bottom where the prices/sizes are listed states purple . In the "quick stats" section it mentions other color possibilities, but to label it purple on the check out form and send a cream colored coral seems misleading IMO.

What I love about LiveAqaria is that their customer service is outstanding!!! I called them, they said keep the long tentacle or donate it if I can't use it....(of course I'm gonna keep it). They didn't have any short tentacles available, so they credited my account with the price of the short tentacle that I already paid for! So basically, I got a free long tentacle and my money back on the short tentacle. They're awesome!

I had a similar experience (twice). I ordered an alveopora and twice (not just once) I got a goniopora instead. The first time I had to send them a picture proving that they'd sent me the wrong thing. The second time they just took my word for it. In both cases I kept the animal that they sent (the gonis have since gone on to www.reefcraze.com for better care than I could provide given my sand stirring maroon) and they shipped new. Had I been able to care for the gonis I would have gotten 3 for the price of 1! Each animal was completely different in coloring.

They were VERY good about accomodating me and shipping the replacement at their expense. I even went so far as to order extra stuff on the 3rd try and got it all shipped free! Give them a call.

Great story,
Amazing what can happen when we give the companies a chance to make it right, instead of just blasting them. I'm sure this is a business where it's easy to make mistakes. Kudos to Liveaquaria for making good on theirs, and kudos to the folks here for constructively addressing the problem...

Not all and even most corals will lose color and size from being shipped to you. Give it time and it will look bigger and better
