DrsFosterSmith.com Bad or good?
I was wondering if this on-line vendor is reputable. A place where I should be spending my hard earned green, or if I should avoid it. They seem to have very good prices, but I don't know about anything else. Thanksin advance.[/quote]

I would like to comapir them to Microsoft. They are one of the largest online retailers for not just fish but for any type of pet.
As of late they seem to have the if you cant beat them buy them mentality. Over the last year they have purchased two of the best online retailers out there in a result reducing their competition.
If your looking for drygoods then take a look at www.thatpetplace.com or www.marinedepot.com as alternate pricing sources. ThatPetPlace.com offers a price match policy.

Isn't that the truth. Might as well be... I don't like either type of monopoly...oops, did I say that? It's just wrong I tell you, wrong...I don't wish good tidings for either...

I'd rather spend my money on the small indy shops. Thanks fishfreek, I'll check out those links.

Well, if they get too big the Better Business Bureau will help a company start up again.

I have bought lots of stuff from drsfostersmith.com and they always seemed to forget 1 or 2 items...Also, their customer service does not pay attention at all. I have called them and asked them to ship my order via USPS and they still shipped my order via FedEx...and the thing is, this happened 3 times not just once. They do have a LARGE selection and somewhat good prices...however their customer service sucks.

I also bought fish from liveaquaria.com and they are more expensive then others but they do have some nice and interesting fish in the selection.

They may not do this. They may ship everything out FedEx. Its obvously much easier on them to only use 1 shipper vs seperating packages out to to go different places.
When you say they forget 1 or two items. What are you ordering. Maybe those items are out of stock. They have a polcy that says if 70% of yoru order can be filled they will fill it and ship it.

We've ordered from Dr. Foster and Smith, well before they were that, they used to be known as The Petwarehouse, we'd always buy our carbon and filters from them and they seem to have better prices than the local Petsmart or Petco, never had a problem with them. Recently we had an inquiry about one of their products, the girl my husband talked to wasn't sure and would have someone call her back, we just figured we'd never hear anything, they called the next day and helped us with what we were inquiring about. We are planning on buying something from Liveaquaria, because of the 10 day guarantee which our LFS can't even come close to touching. Will make a post on how that works out next paycheck

Actually they do have a USPS option and I have received my orders via USPS before. I don't know it would be easier to ship via FedEx but the thing is my perfered shipping method is USPS because it always gets there in 2 days and only the mail man can enter the security gates around my building. I have to actually stand outside and wait for FedEx or UPS...Now as far as the items missing from my order...I have emailed them regarding those items and they simply forgot to place them into my package and they were in stock.

I have just ordered also from liveaquaria.com and i would have to say that the fish are just what they said. I ordered 3 maroon tank raised and 1 whitecheek tang.
With that said just a couple negatives:
From what i hear is that UPS actually refuses to take "live products" from my understanding this has been the case for a little while now. Also 1 of my maroons have died (within the 10day warranty) . They didnt even ask for me to ship it back and gave me full refund. The down-side to this is that my white cheek tang now has ick. Which will either live or die after the 10 days. I have to admit with my experience that their customer service has been outstanding, and they are friendly and very helpful with any questions! It has been 5 days today from which i recieved the fish, Lets Hope For the BEST!

Try to soak the fish food for the tang in garlic oil. This might help.
Please post about the tang in another forum so we can aid you more unless of course you have done so and i just keep missing it.

DrFosterSmith is not recommended IMO outta about 150 dollars in stuff i have about 20 dollars worth of live-stock left. And they all seem to be very fraile and weak on arrival. I acclimated properly and every thing just seem like poor fish quality
