First Southern Maryland Reef Symposium
Maybe moderators can make this a sticky for me. Thank you
The Southern Maryland Marine Aquarium Society ( www.smmas.org) is proud to host the First Southern Maryland Reef Symposium featuring noted speakers Mike Paletta and Steven Pro on October 29th, 2005. This event will be held at the Calvert Marine Museum from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm located near beautiful Solomon’s Island. The pre-registration admission fee of $30 is available until October 22nd, ticket prices increase to $35 thereafter and at the door. Included in this price is admission to the Calvert Marine Museum featuring wildlife from the Chesapeake Bay, a petting area of rays, interactive displays, as well as the history of the Chesapeake. Check out their website ( www.calvertmarinemuseum.com) for directions and all the activities that are available.
It is suggested that you arrive around 10:00am when the Museum opens and check in at the front desk to receive your Reef Symposium passes and admission stickers for the museum. Tour the museum and enjoy the “saltwater” tank displays of the local Chesapeake Bay (who knew seahorses lived in the Chesapeake?), there is so much to see and do here you may want to join the museum and come back again!
We are not allowed to serve lunch at the museum but there are many different venues in the local area just minutes away before the show starts at noon. We are including light refreshments between speakers as we take a break to look at the raffle prizes donated by our good friends and sponsors. The raffle will begin after the last speaker gives his presentation.

Well, it's over. I'd like to say thank you to Kenny, Mike and SMMAS as a whole for taking the time to put together the reef symposium today. And what a great, friendly group of people. It was a fun time getting to meet some new sw enthusiest and getting to hear Pro and Paletta speak. I also got a chance to actually sit down and talk with Steven Pro one on one today which was a nice bonus.
PS, if you ever get a chance to visit Solomon, MD it's worth the trip. It's a beautiful town surrounded by water. Everyone we come across was very friendly and helpful. I just love the small town, postcard feel. It was a great trip.

I didn't get to take many pictures due to my batteries being shot. Yes, I took extras fresh out of the charger and they didn't work either.
Here is a pic of the Drum Point lighthouse at the Museum and pics of some skate eggs and babies from their "Secrets of the Mermaid's Purse: Skates & Rays of the Mid-Atlantic" exhibit. lol

Lemme know also if you already don't have discount cards at Ultimate Saltwater Aquariums in Fort Washington MD. Small shop, but maybe worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood. I'm sure you guys also know of Roozen's. Lots of junk, but some good finds if you're vigilant.
BTW, I can also vouch for Solomon's area. Lovely place. 95% of my fishing trips go out of there. I've been hanging out there since I rented put-put power boats, to my own 20 footer, and numerous charter fishing trips. Spot and croaker being my favorite bottom fishing target.
