Metal Halide bulb prices

I am looking for the cheapest price possible on two 400 watt Ushio 10,000K metal halide bulbs.

The best price I have got so far for 2 bulbs and shipping= 194 dollars.

Ok, who can beat it!

$190 shipped would be my best price as well. If you have any interest in the Coral Vue bulbs...several members have purchased them and liked them...I can do them for $130.00 shipped for two 400w 10k's.

Wow, the coral vue sounds inticing, I will keep that in mind. Logan, I will probably be getting in touch with you, I don't think anyone can compete with that price. Do you have a picture of a tank with the lights on it?

How bout prices on XM, I have heard a lot of good on them.

That's a very good price on the CV bulbs. I think you'll like them a lot. Keep us posted on how they do.

Does Sylvania, Phillips, or GE sell lights like these. What is so special about these MH other than the K rating? What CRI do these bulbs have. I do a lot of lighting, for industrial areas.....I have access to alot of the big names in fixtures and bulbs. I just wanted to know what "kind" or what "specs" these bulbs have to be?

Thanks,

Mike

Yes I understand that part of it, what I am curious to know here is what is so special about Ushio, and Coral Vue bulbs copared to Sylvania MH bulbs. Because for cost I get get MH bulbs all day long cheaper than prices I have seen here. So there must be something different about these bulbs that make them so costly.

FWIW GE manufactures the XM MH bulbs.. IMO XM bulbs are the best out there and I think there were a few Ushio ppl that switched to XMs due to the higher Par readings... I loved mine.. But I switched to the 14k Hamiltons as there wasnt enough "Blue" I still have my old 250w XM bulbs and have been tempted to switch back to them but add more actinic to my tank..

I could not find any reference to XM Metal Halide bulbs with GE. If you can give me some more information such as a number off the bulb that would help greatly.

I did find this:

CMH ChromaFit
250 and 400 Watt MH
Uses a S50/S51 High Pressure Sodium Ballast

400 watt
Rated Life 20000 HRS
Lumins 42000
Color Temp K 3000
CRI 85 (Color Rendering Index)

250 watt
Rated Life 16000 HRS
Lumins 25000
Color Temp K 3000
CRI 85 (Color Rendering Index)

I was told that these bulbs are as close to daylight as you can get in MH.

What do you think? Should the color temp be higher?

Mike

It isnt very well known about GE and the Xm bulbs.. How I found out was I was trying to find some information out about them and a Guy at Marinedepot.com gave me a # to contact them.. When I called it was GE.. They were not too happy that Marinedepot gave out the # and I never got a call back from the Rep..

They do have a Xenon Metal Halide bulb. Not your standard screw in the base type bulb..is this what you got? It kinda plugs into a socket similar to bulbs on a car headlight.

Actually Im sorry Lumen General Makes the bulb.. I was almost certain that It was GE.. Here is the email I got from Marine Depot about this.. "Thanks for your inquiry. At this time, the manufacturer has not provided us with PAR values for this bulb. You can contact Lumen General at 714-288-1480 for more information. They are the manufacturers of the bulb and should have more details on this lamp"

I was almost positive that It was GE but I could have been wrong..

I don't know about Sylvania, but Ushio makes a MH lamp just for aquarium use that is available in the most common base and wattages.
