petco with good fish?

today i was at petco and aside from all the overstocked tanks couple of dead fish... blah blah blah blah, there where to things that struck me as interesting. First they had rams for sale, I guess i dont know how hard they are to find but i dont believe i have seen them for sale. The other thing they had that i thought was interesting where black clowns. I dont personally know how hard either of those are to find but i know there was just a thread on how hard black clown fish are. Just thought i would share.

The petco near me has had black clowns on and off but not since I started my search. I was much happier getting ORA ones and paying a bit more from another store.

I talked to the manager of petco and found out they aren't allowed to medicate the fish either. Makes me wonder why they are allowed to sell fish medications. Next time I go in I will have to ask that question.

I go to Petco a lot, but I've never gotten any fish from them. Just stuff that was on clearance usually ($5 t5ho bulbs!). My roomie tho has gotten a few mollies, and yeah, they area all dead now. Oh, not petco but we went to a small lfs and he got some corys and the guy getting them out grabbed them out of the net with his hands. I was like. :O they are all still alive cept for 1, he somehow got stuck above some floating plants.

It depends on the aquatic specialist in each petco store. I work for petco as a aquatic specialist and I take pride in all my tanks. It really depends on the person running that deartment and yes we do treat our fish. Depending on the system type however like a mars system for example there is one sump for 16 10g tanks so obviously we can't treat one tank. If we were treating ick and used a copper based product we would kill all of our inverts. Anyway just trying to shead some light

My petco changed in the past month! Healthy fish, clean tanks, and an informative specialist! She helped me plan out when I would get the next fish on my
List!

Fish Stores are like Fish, each and every one has a unique and
Different perspective and personality.

The one I work at is GREAT, We scrub the tanks open and then at close,
Make sure everything is healthy, if not, we tell you. And the only problem
We really have are flat worms.

My petco is pretty good. Once when I was there I saw they had German Blue Rams, but I decided not to get them because they are usually super sensitive and because of Petco's bad rep. A few weeks later I went back and none of them were dead, they all looked great. In fact, one of the females had a bright pink stomach that looked like she was about to spawn. I bought a nice male and haven't had problems. The only thing is that they have limited numbers of plants.

I don't go to either Petsmart or Petco, and don't recommend the ones around here. My brother-in-law set up a tank and got 5 glowlight tetras and put them in yesterday afternoon. This morning he woke up and texted me that 4 of the 5 were dead!

You must be one of the lucky ones who actually has a decent petsmart/petco. He even tested water params. and there was hardly any ammonia, so I have no clue why they just died overnight.

I bought one fish from petsmart and it gave my tank ich and all my fish died on my birthday. They wouldn't refund the $3 because I didn't bring in the dead. Lesson learned, always qt.

gotta say maybe its the area adadkins1 because the Petsmart is ok for grabbing a fish net or 10 gallon tank but as for fish, nah dont trust em at all. adadkins1 and I are about 45 min away from each other or a little more but close enough.

I buy all my fish from petco/petsmart, you just have to know how to choose your fish and store wisely. Visit all of the stores in your area to see which one is better. Not all stores are the same, they are each under different ownership. All the online fish stores have dead/diseased fish too, you just don't know about it because their website only shows cute little graphics and pictures.

I also live in a small town, but there is a petco and a locally owned place. The local place is pretty decent. The petco is NOT. There is ONE guy who knows what he is doing when it comes to fish. The aquatics manager is rude and ill-informed about the fish. There also seems to always be at least one dead fish in every tank no matter what time of day I go there.
