(pre)Cured Fiji Live rock for 150$ shipped :-)

I was browsing http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...=24&pCatId=397. 22 lbs for 89 (plus 26$shipping) which I just bought this week :-(.

Or 45 lbs. for 98.99 (plus 52 shipping )

so let us see....

45# for 152$
or
22# for 116$

basically If im correct I just missed 23 lbs of live rock for 36$ shipped. Im kind of upset.

dela. anyone from NJ want to split a box? 45 lbs is too much but id like another 22. I guess is pay for everything since its a good deal and we can meet halfway in a parking lot just bring a styrofoam cooler! or wait how would we weigh it? anyway Just letting you all know there is a sale over there.

DELA

Dont buy into their "precured" marketing hype. Given the cold weather and the fact that it will be shipped damp there will be some degree of dieoff. Its always good to put rock you get shipped into a holding tank for at least a few day so you can verify that its not experencing any dieoff.

Obviously, The site itself states all rock should be cured twice. They dont say it's Cured They say it's pre-cured which is a method used where the rock is picked in fiji. Using a mist to help remove worms and pests. Any Online retailer that said the rock was actually cured wouldnt be in business for long. I already recieved the 22 lbs from them. They sent me 4 (5 pound pieces). and literally no rubble.

I was just giving my standard cautionary post about buying precured rock online. While you understood to not use that as literal wording others have purchased precured rock with the intent of adding it directly to the tank.

I would say the ones that go on like nothing happend have a very well established bio filter already in place and/or dont add alot of uncured rock.

I think established means at least 6-12 months with a good number of amphipos/copepods running around. I could be wrong just wanted to be quick!

Well guess you could say that, but if you place fresh rock that you JUST got from lfs in a tank that just finished cycling, would it recycle since it is not 6-12 months old?

I think he means LR you would buy online. No matter how well the company cures it there is going to be some degree of die off due to shipping. If you buy it from your LFS and it's already cured then the drive home would most likely not kill anything off which may cause spikes if you place it right into your display tank.
