South Jersey - The Aquarium Center

Just thought I'd chime in here about the Aquarium Center ( Fresh Water Fish Salt Water Fish Tanks Clementon New Jersey Aquarium Center ) in South Jersey. I've been to them a few times now, and while at certain times some of the staff seems like you're getting in their way with questions, more often than not, they have really good service. Call on Tuesdays and they will tell you what they just got in stock (new stuff every week). Their prices are competitive for the area on fish, inverts, etc, but are pretty high on corals (though you usually get more than a tiny frag). For supplies, they're as well priced as any of the online retailers and since you don't have to pay shipping, it comes out pretty much even in the end.

I agree service is sometime lacking. Talked to owner once he seemed like a [moderator edit] But his prices are good and Ive only ever bought fish from him. Never ever had a sick fish, ich or any problems. Still have every fish I got from him in the last 2 years. Tanks always look clean never and dead fish floating in tank.

I dont know how far you are willing to drive but my boyfriend lives in north jersey (i live in bucks county lol). Theres a store by his house that has to be the best fish store I have ever been to. Its called Absolutely Fish. Their prices are kind of high but the tanks and fish are always healthy and the people there are pretty knowledgeable.

What area of NJ are you looking for? I personally do not care for the AC and it was waste of an afternoon to drive there and back.

They're a scant 15 minutes from my house, and I have yet to have any problems with anything I've bought from them, livestock, supplies, hardware...

The selection can be hit or miss at times, and if you don't stop in on Tuesdays (or call), you might miss what you're looking for, especially if you wait for a weekend visit. The freshwater selection seems to be much more consistent than the saltwater, or at least, there's more FW livestock left on the weekends that hasn't been bought.

Either way, I like the place, the rewards program is more than generous (much better than the programs from BRS or Affordable Aquatic), and their prices are fair (and sometimes work out less than online if you have to pay shipping).

Last time I was there was over 3yrs ago. Did they do some type of major renovation in the past 3 years? Have new staff?

I found the place to be a dark, dirty hole in the wall. The staff was not extremely rude but just plain ignorant (in person, on the phone and via email). Perhaps I could have overlooked the place's filthy appearance and smell if the staff had a shred of knowledge in respect to fish or had at the very least been polite and helpful. Instead, they made me feel like I was a major inconvenience being there and wasting their time. I will spend my money elsewhere.

If you are close to Philly..the hidden reef is huge and has the cheapest prices around from what I've seen.

Too bad absolutely fish is so expensive. It annoys me how they don't have a return policy, AT ALL.

I know. Absolutely fish is ridiculous and their customer service is horrible (been there several times). I will not go there anymore.
