OK, so I saw this thread and couldn't help but reply. I manage a pet department at Wal-Mart and my tanks are great. I clean them thouroughly once a week on Mondays and a quick clean on Fridays before the weekend. Lose..on average....5-10 dead fish a day...not bad at all considering the couple thousand that reside in the tanks. I don't understand though how Wal-Mart can hire people who knowingly don't know jack about aquariums! That is what upsets me alot!
The reason why I don't work at a regular pet store? They are HORRIBLE!! There is not one good
LFS around me, and people actually tell me that they come to me to get fish because they are better than and "pet" store around. Also, I think I have the biggest selection around! More than any other
LFS.
BTW, tanks broke on me once...know what I did? Gave all the fish away! Went around and got people with tanks, asked them what they had, and made a suggestion. Got rid of many of them, what I didn't get rid of, I hooked up some airpumps and kept them alive. Lost some due to low water temps, but that was it!
Ok, so just wanted to back myself up a bit and say that it is all in who runs the place, not the store.
