Wal-Mart

what a joke.

They have a tank FULL of Oscars and they are COVERED with ICK!
So I took it upon myself to add the ICK med. right off their shelf(take that).
I also told the person working there to bring the temp up to 86 in the tank.
I stood there until I saw him do it with my own eyes.
This dosen't mean he didnt turn it right back down once I walked off but it made me feel better.
I also brought the prettyest one home and put him in my qt tank.
He is so cute and only about 1 1/2 inces long.
Tank temp is up to 86 and the ICK med is in.
Cross your fingers and hope he makes it.

Just needed to vent.
I feel better now...lol

That's great! I laughed when I read that... it really makes me angry when LFS's (Wal-Mart, even worse!) let disease go in their tanks and sell the fish! Plus, I have an affinity towards Oscars... they're so cute!

Good job!

Update:

Lil rescued Oscar is doing better.
He isnt laying on his side on the bottom of the tank any more.
The ICK spots have decreased and he ate a small pellet.
Swimming aroun some also.
Still keep your fingers crossed for him.

Another update:

Ok this store is about to make me MAD!!!!!!!!
Just went back to wal-mart to get more ICH med. as I was walking past the tanks I looked into the infested Oscar tank(ICH) and these morons have put four more new Albino Oscars in with the ICH covered ones.

Come on people get a clue.

I NEVER buy fish at this place altho I did rescue the lil O from there.
I just go there to buy the meds and such because they are cheaper then my lfs.

Fish update:

Well the lil guy still has some signs of ICH so he is still in the qt tank and the heat is still at 86 and giving ICH meds every 24hrs so I hope he will make it.

The heat should be enough, thats all it took to clear my entire tanks of it.

and don't be to hasty, remember.. he may be cute, but he still needs the 2 weeks like everyone else

I know its hard to resist the cute ones.. I fell to that today and impulse bought a banjo cat.

I never buy fish from Wal-mart. I stay away from their fish tanks because the one time I looked the tanks where nasty, cloudy & the few plants they had was covered in algea & dying. I feel sorry for those who are new at the hobby buying fish, them dying and getting frustrated from the beginning just because of Wal-marts poor up keep of the fish dept..

I never buy fish from them either but being an Oscar lover I couldnt walk away and let them die.
If I had my 180gal already I would have taken them all.

tell me about it - i was at Wal Mart yesterday and the fish guy was selling a $25 butterfly koi to a lady who was planning on keeping it in a plastic goldfish bowl!!! I about passed out when the guy said that was ok and then went on to tell her about some fish he got there that died "mysteriously with a white film" a week after he brought them home. AND HE WORKS THERE YIKES

purchasing fish from places like "wal-mart" in order to rescue them is not the best idea because they are going to replace the fish you bought with new fish wich will meet the same fate. The best way to help those fish is to not buy them.If you stop spending money on them they will stop stocking them.It should be illeagal to do what they do.

I used to avoid the tanks at two of our WalMarts like the plague, but after the day I rescued a fantail goldfish out of a tank of comets (they had them housed by length, therefore price, don't you know), I take a certain pleasure in going back to the tanks, unstacking the betta containers, and finding the employee of the hour so I can "help" him or her rearrange tanks, medicate, etc.

I was just at wally world an hour ago...235 dead fish. The tank of feeder fish were barely alive. I usually go by to check on their fish to see if there is a fish I can save, but today I looked into the tank and the fish were all dead. It was really disturbing, I found the person who works in the section and he said that his pump died today, and they all died of shock...ya..sure and my uncle in a big fat monkey. I am so angry and disgusted.

Yeah kind of hypocritical on their part, they try to have some sort of control on society ie what is played by not selling explicit lyric cd's and things that they dislike. But its okay to kill thousands of fish every year, I can't shop there cause I got tired of explaining to my son about the dead fish, and trying to talk sense into the employees. I guess you get what you pay for. I try to support my LFS and internet stores that really do care about the hobby.

well just got back from wal-mart and man they had about 24 dead fish in there tanks. and that was not counting the bones in the bottom. there was one guy ready to buy some fish from the tanks. i asked him if he had seen all the dead fish in there, he said no so i showed him and told him of a lfs to go to. but they have a 90 day bring back on all of there fish. trying to make up for all the sick ones.
