Wal-mart
I just got back from my 24 hour Wal-mart and couldn't believe my eye's. In 1 tank alone (Guppie tank) I noticed one dead fish.. I had to look a couple times to see it was actually a fish because it had tons of white strings or fuzz covering it... I thought Oh geeze and then I looked closer..... to my AMAZEMENT there were 7 more completely covered fuzzball fishes floating at the top of that tank.... They would have had to been there for day's if not weeks!!!! I immediatly got a supervisor and showed him the tank...
I will say he got RIGHT on top of the situation and wasted no time in having someone else clean not just that tank... but ALL the tanks and they removed all the dead fish... I then left so I don't know if they tested or changed anything else.... I also explained to the manager that this show's customers that these fish are disease infested and no one will want to buy from them seeing these horrible fish conditions....
Was there anything else I should have said or done in this situation... I was REALLY tempted to just check all the tanks myself for the water levels... I feel bad for the fish that were still in that infested tank.

You did right by bringing it up. This is just the first step. If the manager does his job now, things should get better. But it all depends on management. If you go back and things are bad again, let that manager know you'd like to talk to the next person up in the chain of command. Other than that, it's about all you can do. The other option is to go to the website and submit a complaint. I did that, and not only did the store manager call me, but the district manager as well. It had gotten a lot better since, but it's a slow process. Don't expect Walmart to turn on a dime. But when dealing with them, my honest input is to just be honest and professional. It works wonders. Others think having an attitude is the only thing that works. But it doesn't. Hope this helps.

It was the 24 hour Wal-mart off of Manchester Road.. A little west of 270 I can't think of what the plaza is called, there is a Petsmart in there also... I've seen their tanks before but never like that...
I was very proud of myself and told them in a professional manner.

Just use the "open door " . Was it an assistant maneger or was it the store manager . Your intelect in the matter will help and you may be put there if you aren't already in live pets. ( I work at one too 0653) . If yours is like ours if they have to put any money into it they won't do anything other than tell you a "were looking into it and good job " . Good luck.

I know which one your talking about. It's right next to a Home Depot. I've usually don't go to that Wal-Mart. I go to the one over at Boone's Crossing.

I won't even look at the tanks at the wal-mart in Chattanooga. I've come to expect that the fish will be in terrible condition with several dead fish floating at the top of every tank. Wal-Mart buys their fish in such bulk that there's absolutely no financial benefit to them of investing ANY time or energy in their fish. They just want to sell what they can while they're alive... after all, they've got another truck coming in a few days...

Actually, walmart gets fish shipments once a week. And you can only order in dollar amount what you sold the previous week. My wholesaler is pretty good (now, they didn't use to be) and keep an eye on what is ordered. We actually are close to the bottom in order size. Walmart stores really don't order much compared to the local stores.
Just reitterating my saying that the problem starts from the ground up. If wholesalers stop abusing the lack of knowledge of the employee, I bet walmart wouldn't have half the problems they do.
