WALMART

Has anyone bought the 55 gallon tank from their. You get like a filter with it too. If anyone has bought it is the filter any good? Or do you recommend using a whisper or aquaclear instead? Any help would be great. Plus building my own stand.

The filter with it is a minmum amount of filtration. I would pick up a bigger filter. Either a bigger HOB or a canister. Then you can either run the filter that came with it as extra or save it for a smaller tank. One suggestion would be to place the HOB it came with on one saide and then get an Aquaclear 300 for the other side. 2 HOB's would give great filtration plus will assure that if one breaks then you won't be in too much trouble.

The tank is an ok tank. The equpment you get you could classify as low end equipment. I would not use the heater if it comes with one simply because cheap heaters can really do damage to your setup if they stick on or if they short out.

I use proquatic heaters that I buy at Petsmart, also try getting a penguin biowheel. Everyone I have talked to so far has one, and I love mine.

I also buy filters that are more powerful than what I need. I feel that they keep the tank cleaner and work more efficiently.

Good Luck!

Their more expensive then petsmart in my area. Plus they have less(one isle). I like wall mart but for fish.. ... That aquarium comes with one heater/filter. I like 2 or 3 'smaller' filters for aeration. So I'd keep the ones that come with it then get another filter/heater sufficient for a 30 gal.

I bought the 29g Setup their about 3 years ago.....I changed the filter out but Im still using the original heater with no problems. Its been a good little tank. I dont think I would buy a 100g tank or more there though. I just dont trust that thin glass. But I think a 55 would be fine...........

I just wanted to say that I bought the 55 gal setup today from walmart for a lil less than $150.00. The tank came with a Aqua-Tech 30-60 filter, 2x 15watt marineland daylights and a visi-therm 200watt heater. The tank is your everyday run of the mill Tempered Glass 55gal. I as well picked up the matching stand for the 55gal while I was there for lil less than $80.00. The stand seems to hold it pretty stable. The filter definetly needs to be replaced but seems to work great as a starter filter. I think I might switch my magnum 350 off my 29gal and put it on this one and vice versa.. The tank is setup and beginning the cycle as of now thanks to some borrowed sand from my 29gal… All in all it seems like a decent setup for someone on a tight budget. I plan on using it in my living room until I get my house then the 29gal goes to the kids and the 55gal goes in my room and in comes the 280gal for the livingroom..

James

Before I got my fulval canister filter I had 2 aquaclear 300s on my 55. They are cool because you can put 2 other types of filter media in it including the sponge that comes with it. Also I have had fry get sucked into this filter many many times and they just hang out in the open space just below the sponge, I have never lost a fry to the filter. I just pulled 5 danios out of it the other day. LOL (I have it on my 20 gallon W/ restricted flow)

JUST an FYI seems as though the FIlter system is the same as a penquin 330 without the biowheels. From my understanding the Filter is made by marineland for Walmart to include in their tank kits as an Aqua-Tech filter.. And from Close Inspection It seems as though this is true. You can buy the biowheel assemblies and add them to the filter for approx $40.00 But Last that I checked Petco.com has the Penquin 330b on sale now for approx $25.00 w/ free shipping

Same as Penguin

The filter that the 55 gal tank comes with appears to be the same as the Penguin 330. It takes the same filters, and there is even a $15 bio-wheel attachment available that fits the Walmart filter.

I have one of those tanks also, the only problem I have is I was told that the filter is a cheep type and the pump will quit quite unexpectly. I am lining up for a big hob, it's for a 100 gal tank. (that should push some water)

Got a part number for that bio wheel? Maybe I'll get one and run it until this pump quits.
