Depends where you live. But IME, Petsmart is better because of the quality of their fish.

Duh, Chevy. I like petsmart better than petco, but I think only because it's closer to my house, lol.

I like PetSmart better. Lately the one I go to has been getting much better with their tanks and new variety of fish as well as healthier plants.
I only like Petco for Special Blend. Other than that I never go there. Most of their stuff seems overpriced and don't have too much variety.

Personally, I would look for a small local fish store. The prices might be a tad higher, but you might find a gem somewhere that sells great stock, and some times even has great advice.

I've never been to a Petsmart but based on the Petco near me I'm sure it'll probably be Petsmart...
Lets just say yesterday I went in for crickets for by baby red eyed tree frogs, all boxes of boxed crickets were dead (7 boxes total), there was a dead turtle in one of their tanks (and I'm guessing he wasn't recently deceased that day...), numerous dead fish, some tanks were so scummy and filled with algae you could barely even see in them.

I wish I had a local fish store near me
EDIT: Correction, a local fish store that sells freshwater fish. We have a very nice one called Coral but its saltwater fish only.

I stick to local shops/breeders/conventions/auctions. I'm trying to make a move towards putting my money towards small business than corporations. But, if I have to, I go with Petco for my reptile stuff and Petsmart for fish stuff.
