Where to buy rocks in NYC
Hi everyone, I am currently thinking of purchasing a few rocks to create caves. I was thinking of some safe/cheap rocks such as slate rocks or smooth lake rocks for my kribensis.
Anyone know where I can buy some rocks in NYC? And if so what types of rocks, and what should I look out for?
I heard slate rocks were ok if they were not made from limestone, where would I go about finding those?

Are there any places in driving range that make patios or walkways? Not that there's much call for those in NYC but maybe the Boroughs?
The kribs would also be really happy in cichlid stones like these: Cichlid Stones

I can always look in the suburban area. Thanks for the suggestion.
I was looking to build up rocks to reach up to 3 quarters of the tank.

Aside from Home-depot and Lowes, If your looking for slate, any home & gardening, kitchen / bathroom countertops may have slate. Any patio, walkway grade slate will work fine for your needs.

With "real" rocks, that's adding a ton of weight to your tank, don't forget that. The cichlid stones are ceramic and really have next to no weight to them. And the kribs love them. They also will spawn beneath driftwood or just about anywhere. They are not picky at all.

Thanks! When I go to home depot, what should I ask for? When I asked for slate rocks, they were a bit lost.

Thanks for the suggestion. Should I watch out for the over weight? I currently have an iron stand, how much would that be able to hold?

Is the stand specifically meant to be a fish tank stand?

Yeah. It came with the tank. I currently have about 50-70lbs of crushed coral and I fill water to inch to top. I'm now worried it might not be able to handle the weight.
