Issue with Betta scales

Hello! I just joined, so I'm not sure which section of the forums is the right place to post this question. I used to have freshwater tanks and have had bettas before, but it has been years. I just got Elton a few days ago and noticed earlier today (was not the case this morning) that he's missing a scale. Or rather, it's just kind of hanging there. I'm assuming he scratched himself, but since he's new I want to make sure it doesn't look like any kind of sickness that might be common with brand new fish. Photo attached. Thank you in advance!
