I dont know, I haven't gotten one yet, it would be a lightly planted for a betta

Well for plants it all depends on the light. Then there are some plants that float or that get nutrients through the water column.

Research low light plants.

So a good anubias or java fern and a strand or two of anacharis can give good spots for you betta to sit and relax.

How do you plant them in sand? Ive tried and never gotten far.

Well a java fern doesn't get planted. You tie or glue to a rock or drift wood. The rest? Twist the roots to the side or use a hairpin and have the hairpin to the side.
