ADA Amazonia soil?

I have not posted in about 9 months. I have a 72 gallon bow front established 8 years tank. I took out the UGF grates. I haven't used the UGF in over 2 years. I was having problems getting plants to grow through the grate. So I finally pulled it. I decided to remove my pebble base and go to ADA Amazonia soil. I added it by hand with a small cup to the bottom. I only have a airstone going now in the tank. It is very murky which I expect for the next few weeks. MY question is. When would you turn your canister back on after adding the soil? How much water should I be exchanging? How often? Any questions you want to ask. Please do.

Jodi

As soon as possible. It won't hurt anything.

You can always put a sponge over the intake if you are worried about sucking up floating soil

Are there fish in that tank?
I ask because ADA soil is supposed to cause large ammonia spikes for the first month or so.
If there are fish present, you may want to keep a closer eye on your water parameters and be prepared to do some large PWCs as needed.
