Ok, 40 watt (actual watts) CFL us TOO much light. Stupid algae growth, and lots. Would 2 13 watts work, with the co2 maybe turned back a bit and nutes adjusted? Thanks guys. Going from hard to obtain (locally) coralife t5 to cfls, because they are cheaper.

Also, would I benefit having 1 warm and 1 cool bulb if I go double 13watt bulbs?

Right now the co2 is cranked back and just 13watts to get the plants some light while I try to wait the algae out.

I'm using a 40watt 6500k cfl and the only algae i have is some brown algae, and its because its newly dirted/planted. Added an oto and a nerite snail to help curb the growth. Try doing 4 hours of light on, 2 off, and 4 on again. What k spectrum is your cfl?
